The intent of this Invitation for Bid is to select one contractor to provide annual directional boring/trenchless excavation services on an as needed basis for the Department of Public Works Traffic Engineering Division. Work will be generally associated with electric utility and traffic signal installation and shall be in accordance with all specifications, terms, and conditions herein.
4.0 SCOPE OF SERVICES A. Work shall include directional boring and installation of conduit utilizing a trenchless excavation method. B. The City shall provide the conduit to be installed. C. Conduit will be continuous schedule 40 PVC. D. The Contractor shall obey all requirements of the Virginia Underground Protection Act, all Federal and State OSHA requirements, Virginia Work Zone Protection Manual, and all applicable VDOT regulations and specifications. E. The Contractor must be able to perform within fifteen (15) days of notice and prosecute all work to completion without interruptions under the control of the contractor or to a schedule as agreed upon by the City. F. Use of the ???MISS UTILITY??? system is mandatory for all work, and the contractor must make all contacts for the required marking. G. Upon completion of conduit installation, the contractor will be required to install a nylon or polypropylene pull string having a tensile strength of at least 250 pounds in the conduit run and leave at least twelve (12) inches extra at each end of the run. H. The City will remove all sidewalk and/or street pavement necessary to allow the contractor to bore and install the required conduit. I. The City will not open test pit areas. The test pit areas required will be the responsibility of the contractor to open and temporarily close with stone and cold patch. The City will complete all final repairs to sidewalk, pavement, and test pit areas that are disturbed by the job. J. The City will not dig tail back ditches for pulling the conduit. All work necessary to bore and install conduit will be the responsibility of the contractor. K The contractor shall be responsible for leaving the site in a clean and safe condition after completion. The City will replace the sidewalk and/or pavement removed prior to the project. L. The contractor is responsible for all items required to secure a safe work site, including all permits and pedestrian work zone controls. M. The using City department will designate a staff member to coordinate with the contractor on each job. N. The City guarantees a minimum of $1,500.00 per job.
